Embracing Change: Reflections on Summer’s End and a New Season

As summer comes to an end and school starts back up, along with the hustle and bustle of work and activities, it’s nice to take these last few days to reflect on what we’ve done—both as a family and on our own. It’s also a time to look forward to the new school year and the holidays, while reflecting on the things that have changed, whether small or big, happy or sad.

Something about the end of August always feels so nostalgic to me. I’ve been here before. It brings back memories of my childhood and the different seasons of motherhood. So many things have changed throughout the years as we’ve all grown older, yet some things remain the same: summer is ending, autumn is beginning, and we look forward to the holidays with anticipation.

Some of these days come with a lot of emotion because so much has changed over time. This will be the first autumn in a long while that I’ll be home on my own while all of my children are in school. My daughter is starting school, and I feel both sad and happy. There are so many mixed emotions, but I look forward to watching her learn and grow. I also look forward to having the time to ground myself and figure out the next step in my own life’s journey.

Does the end of summer make you feel nostalgic? What memories from this summer will you carry with you? Are you or your family entering a new season of life this year? What are you looking forward to as autumn and the holidays approach? Is there anything you hope to begin, change, or rediscover within yourself?

As we say goodbye to summer and welcome a new season, I’m reminding myself that change can be both beautiful and emotional. Every ending makes room for a new beginning. This autumn, I’m choosing to embrace the mixed emotions, appreciate how far my family has come, and remain open to whatever the next chapter may bring. I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on your own journey and step into this new season with hope, gratitude, and intention.

If you’d like to spend a few slow, simple days with us, I invite you to watch my newest YouTube video, “A Few Days of What We Eat as a Family.”

In the video, I share a glimpse of our everyday family meals, with a focus on slow living, frugal choices, and sustainable habits. It’s a quiet look at how we nourish our family while making the most of what we have.
